Changes from Image Rodeo 1.3 to 1.3.1

Bug Fix! - If Image Rodeo 1.3 can not find the Custom Templates Folder, it will silently refuse to build any HTML pages. Unfortunately, this will affect most new Image Rodeo users. Image Rodeo 1.3.1 fixes this bug, and also posts an alert if you've changed the default location of the custom templates folder and the folder is missing, or if the template you're trying to use is missing.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2.9 to 1.3

Sort by Title, Caption, Filename or ID - Select any index page or collection of index pages and sort the photos by title, caption, filename or id.

Change Path, Change Paths - Change the directory references for an entire archive all at once, a single directory, or a single photo. The number of missing photos is noted on the status bar.

Template Updates - The Jet City Orange template now supports photo titles, and the Simple Plus template now sports buttons.

Template Authoring Fixes - A bug where Image Rodeo would ignore a custom template with the same name as a built-in template has been fixed. Alerts were added to make template editing mistakes more obvious.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2.8 to 1.2.9

Seven New Templates - All seven templates are supplied by Image Rodeo users! They consist of Jeremy Wilker's Pola Frame template (also available for iView), a slide show template from David Hills, and no less than 5 templates from Paul Van Cotthem, including the first Dutch templates.

Jaguar - Image Rodeo was compiled with Jaguar's development tools, which [in theory] produces faster code. You'll also notice a brushed metal look when running Jaguar.

Cosmetics - The status bar now shows the number of index and photo pages selected, or the size of the selected photo. The template menu now indicates the source of the template: standard (supplied by Image Rodeo), third-party (supplied by another Image Rodeo user), or custom. The splitter bars now allow for collapsing subviews.

totalIndices - A new IRScript command calculates the total number of index pages accessable from the selected page. Similar to totalPhotos.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2.7 to 1.2.8

Support for IPTC / NAA Data - Image Rodeo now reads the IPTC / NAA data that several programs (including Adobe PhotosShop) place in JPEG files in the APP13 block. This information can be viewed in the IPTC Info Panel. The Title and Caption fields are automatically copied to the Image Rodeo Title and Caption fields when a file is imported.

Improved Search Behavior - The Fix Link panel that sometimes appears during launch now includes Yes to All and No to All buttons. In addition, the entire search process can be skipped through a setting in the Preferences Panel.

Reveal in Finder / Open in Editor - A new menu command allows you to select a photo or photos in Image Rodeo and find the original jpeg files in the Finder. A second new command invokes the default JPEG editor for those files.

Update Link - A new menu command provides quick access to the re-link command added in version 1.2.5.

String Compare in IRScript - IRScript now supports string compares using the == and != operators. If both operands are strings, the string compare is used. In any other case the operands are coerced to integers, and the integer compare is used. This does not change any of the built-in templates, but user-defined templates may be affected.

Other - You can now import the photos in reverse order by changing a preference. This is helpful when importing photos from iPhoto. Also, there's a minor bug fix in the Ascent template.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2.6 to 1.2.7

Feature Restrictions Removed - Image Rodeo now supports all features right out of the chute, including all HTML editing features. However, the reminder panel will still appear after a preset number of launches. You can disable the reminder panel by registering your copy of Image Rodeo.

Preserve JPEG Filenames - Image Rodeo now provides an option to use the original JPEG file names when creating the downsampled images. Caveat: Image Rodeo does not detect name conflicts. If your source files may have duplicate names, you should let Image Rodeo create new file names (the default).

Bug Fix - Fixed a small bug in the 1.2.6 use of ALT tags that generated invalid HTML when a quote mark (") was used in a title or caption.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2.5 to 1.2.6

Build Selection - You can now build a single page or any collection of pages, in addition to building the entire site. This speeds up the turn-around time when you want to see the effect of a small change to a large site.

Export AppleScript - You can export the entire database - including captions and source paths - to AppleScript. This script can be run to re-create the database.

HTML 4.01 Validated - Small changes were made to the built-in templates so that web sites generated by Image Rodeo pass the W3C validator.

Valid HTML 4.01!

Multiple IRML Files per Index Page - Added a new plist tag to support multiple IRML files per index page. See the documentation for details.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2.4 to 1.2.5

Replace or Re-link Original Photo - You can now replace a source photo with a new source photo by dragging the new JPEG file from the Finder into the preview pane in Image Rodeo. This feature can also be used to re-establish a broken link.

Bug Fixes - Shutterfly JavaScript was modified to removed references to the referid. IR now displays the correct drag-and-drop cursor for the various drag-and-drop operations: plus for copy, and arrow for link. The window size is now correctly saved, which fixes a splitter-bar drawing bug. An obscure file linking problem was fixed: IR 1.2.4 broke links if you moved your photo archive to another disk with the same UNIX path, and then renamed some files or folders. In IR 1.2.5 this won't happen as long as you open and save the database file after moving your photo archive.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2.3 to 1.2.4

Reload Templates Command - You can force IR to reload templates with the Reload Templates command. This is useful if you're designing your own template and want to make frequent changes.

Preferences Panel - There's a new Preferences panel, where you can set the location of the user-defined templates and specify the launch behavior. You can choose from creating a new file (OS X default), opening the last file, or doing nothing.

Delete Extra Files Option - The Destination Location panel is now called Build Settings, and there's an option to Delete extra files. When checked, this option will delete all the extra files found in the destination folder. Be careful with this setting! Image Rodeo deletes all files that aren't necessary for the IR-generated web site, even if those files are necessary for something else.

Other - The keyboard shortcut for Delete is now cmd-delete (OS X standard); the order of the Web Site menu better reflects the workflow; the user-defined templates path now honors the tilde (~) in the path; the file format is slightly different; the conversion is silent and automatic.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2.2 to 1.2.3

Print Size Popup Menu - Print options are set through a popup menu, which lists standard sizes for 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10 prints. Print size is now measured in pixels, not inches, and print DPI (dots per inch) is no longer tracked.

Print Original JPEG Files - You can now force Image Rodeo to copy the original jpegs for printing - which provides the highest resolution possible, and preserves embedded EXIF data.

Shutterfly Support - Most printable templates now support ordering prints through Shutterfly (requires JavaScript on the browser client).

AppleScript / IRScript Changes - Document.printSize is now measured in pixels, not inches; document.printDpi has been dropped; document.showThumbnailTitles and document.showPhotoTitles are now settable.

Template Fixes - Thumbnails now link to the main photo in the JCO and two-level templates.

Other - The unlock panel now goes away when you unlock IR; the drag-and-drop order has been changed so that iPhoto drag-and-drops work better; the file format is slightly different; the conversion is silent and automatic.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2.1 to 1.2.2

New Template - The "Ascent" template was added, bringing the count to 6. This template is the first to use style sheets, and one of the first to really take advantage of IRScript. See this example. As usual, full source is provided.

Greyscale - Image Rodeo now handles grey-scale (1-channel) jpegs. (Actually, 1.2.1 was supposed to solve this problem, but there were still outstanding issues.)

Save Path - The "Import Photos..." panel now goes the last directory path, so you don't have to drill as far to find your photos.

Fast Preview Sizing - There's now a "fast scaling" mode that's used when you resize the window, or move the splitter bars. This makes the resizing action much snappier.

Rotate Counter Clockwise - There's now a "Rotate Counter Clockwise" command, and the keyboard shortcuts have been changed to match iPhoto.

IRScript Enhancement - IRScript now includes the notion of "this" (ala JavaScript). An example of use can be seen in the "Ascent" template.

Template Changes - The template preview pictures were updated. The template folders are now sorted in the Template popup menu.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.2 to 1.2.1

Greyscale - Now includes support for 1-channel (grey) jpegs.

New Template - The new template - Jet City Orange - was inspired by the web site with the same name. It's a minor variation on the Two-Level template. There are now 5 built-in templates.

Template Changes - There are several small improvements in the Two Level template. Also, the template directory now supports subfolders, so it's easy to keep track of which files are part of which templates.

Bug Fixes - Fixed several minor bugs in the Simple template where bad links were sometimes generated. Fixed a minor bug in drag-and-drop from the Finder where the file order was reversed.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.1 to 1.2

Multiple Templates - The template engine is now exposed! Image Rodeo comes with 4 built-in templates, several with powerful new features, such as the ability to specify the number of columns on the index pages, show or hide titles, and always show a thumbnail - even for index pages!

Customizable Templates - You can now modify the source code for the templates, or create your own using a JavaScript-like scripting language. You can create templates that use standard HTML, or add frames, CSS, or JavaScript. In fact, you can generate any sort of text file, including XML or comma-delimited files. Full documentation is provided online.

Enhanced AppleScript Support - Several properties were added to the AppleScript interface. The names of some of the existing properties were changed to align them with the template language.

File Format Change Like clockwork, the file format has changed again (slightly). Image Rodeo will automatically and silently convert files from all previous versions. If you save a file in Image Rodeo 1.2, you will not be able to open it in an older version.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.0.2 to 1.1

AppleScript Support - Image Rodeo is now scriptable using the Script Editor that comes with OS X.

Unlock Panel - With AppleScript support, we introduce the first locked feature in Image Rodeo. There are several more in the pipeline!

Resizable Caption Edit Box - The caption edit box is now resizable using a 2nd splitter bar, so you can enter gobs of text in there. (Remember that you can put arbitrary HTML in the caption, as long as it can sit in a paragraph block.)

Browser Launch - There's a new command to preview your HTML files in your currently selected browser.

All New Destination Folder... Panel - The Destination Folder... Panel has been completely re-worked to make it easier to use.

Many Template Fixes - All IMG tags now carry width, height and border attributes; the title is now easier to see; slide shows have been slowed down; table generation supports Windows browsers better; etc.

iDisk Fix - Image Rodeo now works correctly with iDisks.

File Format Change - Like clockwork, the file format has changed again (slightly). Image Rodeo will automatically and silently convert files from all previous versions. If you save a file in Image Rodeo 1.1, you will not be able to open it in an older version.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.0.1 to 1.0.2

It's Harder to Lose Source Files - Image Rodeo now saves more information about each source picture file. This means that you can rename or move your source picture folders just like you used to with OS 9, and Image Rodeo will track those changes automatically.

UPGRADE NOTE: if you have Image Rodeo database files created in version Image Rodeo 1.0.1 or earlier, open and save each database before moving or renaming your source folders!

Scan on Open - Image Rodeo scans for source pictures each time a file is open. Source files that are missing have their location (the 3rd column in the list) highlighted in red.

Window Size is Saved - Image Rodeo now saves the window size and location for each window. The splitter bar location is also saved.

Printing Default Changed - New Image Rodeo databases have printing turned off by default. This saves time and disk space for new web sites. Note that old web sites can turn off printing using the Picture Settings... panel.

Bug Fix - You can now import files with the 'JPEG' Finder type, just like the manual says you can. Besides supporting the 'JPEG' Finder type, source files can have any of the following extensions (hidden or not): jpg, jpeg, JPG and JPEG.

File Format Change - The file format has changed again (slightly). Image Rodeo will automatically and silently convert files. If you save a file in Image Rodeo 1.0.2, you will not be able to open it in Image Rodeo 1.0.1.

Changes from Image Rodeo 1.0 to 1.0.1

Support for non-ANSI Characters in Paths - Image Rodeo can now handle filenames that include non-ANSI characters. This has only been tested for Latin-1 characters (including characters unique to Spanish, German and French), but should work for any characters that the Finder can generate.

Support for Latin-1 (ISO-8859-1) in HTML Pages - Latin-1 characters that appear in filenames, titles and captions now show up correctly on web pages.

Compiled for OS X 10.1 - In theory, launch times are slightly faster.

Other - There’s a new document icon; several bugs associated with the little preview images were fixed; the little preview images are now generated on import; the little preview images are saved in the database file so they don’t have to be re-generated; memory is released more often so that huge imports (> 500 pictures) run much faster.
